Dr. Kemal Berkkan

Mr. Berkkan is a founder member of The School, who brings more than 30 years of primarily private sector experience as a researcher, engineer, lecturer, faculty member, consultant, and C-level executive in quality, technology, and innovation management.

Prior to joining The School, Dr. Berkkan was Deputy General Manager for six years at Altınay Aviation and Advanced Technologies, which is an Istanbul-based leading international technology company. His main duties included managing and monitoring projects in the areas of Motion Control Systems, Unmanned Systems, Weapon Systems, and Invisibility Systems.

Dr. Berkkan served as Project Management Coordinator for five years at the Turkish Institute for Industrial Management (TUSSIDE), an industry focused institute of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Dr. Berkkan was responsible for leading many large-size critical institutionalization and capacity-building professional development programs in the fields of total quality, technology, and strategic management. There, he also had the chance to run training courses and workshops with participants from private and public sector organizations.

Dr. Berkkan worked for 18 years at Koc Holding, the largest international private sector corporation in Turkey. His early years were at Beko Electronics specializing in electronic products, and his late years at Arcelik specializing in home electronics and appliances. Among very different projects and responsibilities during his years at Koc, Dr. Berkkan was Six-Sigma Manager responsible for establishing the six-sigma management system across the company.

Dr. Berkkan held a part-time faculty position for almost 20 years at Bogazici University, offering courses in Manufacturing Processes.

Mr. Berkkan received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, and Master and Ph.D. degrees from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada.
